Oatman Arizona is a ghost town unlike most others, originally a mining camp until the lines were shut down by 1941 by the US government as part of the country's war effort. Oatman was saved by route 66 passing right through town, however with the demise of route 66 Oatman became a ghost town and all but faded away. With the renewed interest in route 66 Oatman is once again alive as a tourist destination with stores with the old wooden sidewalks and tin roofs selling art and souvenirs. What makes Oatman unique are the wild burros that roam freely through town looking for handouts and blocking traffic. The most famous building in Town is the Durlin Hotel now known as the Oatman Hotel which was a honeymoon stop for Clark Gable and Carole Lombard and is rumored to be haunted.
